Creating Leads

Edit the content at the top of the page.

Leads are the first thing on the page that you will see. They LEAD the page. When you pull up a page there are many options you can choose from. This article will walk through lead lists, promos, tabs, images, and videos

More about lists

*(recommended) Dynamic lists require a tag and will auto update as you add the tag to other content you create.

If you choose to use a different form you will need to add content manually by selecting

Click the "+" button

Search and select content from the window that pops up

Promos leads are used to display one article or page.
Common promo styles are the "Promo Full width" and "Promo full width Large"
This style is well used across the college pages and looks like this
See Biology home page

*Note: This picture contains a Lead Promo Full Width "Ice, Ice, Baby" and a carousel list feature "Major Information"

Click the "+" in the lead section

Select Promo

* Stared promos are most common and easiest to use and look organized.

Now you will select your content to put in the promo.
Click the Item drop down (this is preset to "internal")

This drop down has three options: internal, external, and no link

Internal will create a button that links to another page or article within the same site in brightspot.
External is any link outside of brightspot.
No link is having no button and only having an image display.

See examples.

Internal (Biology home page —> Biology article)

External (PWS home page —> News)

No Link (image and text) Cell Biology home page

Once the style of lead promo is selected you will need to select an image to display (located under the description)

* If the image is in the site already choose "Shared"
* if you are using a new image that's not being added to the site click "one off image"
Select an image
(without a link)

(with a link)

Edit the template and image styling till it looks how you want it.

*With one setting I changed the image to focus on the stairs and not the trees.

This feature that you are using now is a tab feature. This may be difficult to figure out.
Click here to see how to make tab content

The easiest way to have an image set as a lead is to select the promo feature (see promo leads tab) and have no link set.

If you choose to select the one off image for a lead, it looks something like this

Click "+"
Click "Misc"
Select "Video"

Select either a shared video or one-off video

-One-off Videos

Brightcove is not something you will need to use
HTML5 is used to input videos
The Youtube URL is one of the most common methods of adding videos

Shared videos are videos uploaded to brightspot
These videos will give you the most access to editing and format.
Add a shared video you have already uploaded to Brightspot

* Depending on the file type you may or may not have this youtube bar on your video.

Shared images have this option "Video Lead Styles"

When you click the drop down you get these option that you can personalize to your liking

Autoplay is a nice feature that allows video to play when you open
Full width expands the video to fit the screen
Hide Headline and sub headline get rid of any overlaying text
